How many people are PLANNING on eating an extra 800 calories this Thursday? Seems like a very silly question, doesn't it? But it is VERY LIKELY that 80% of the population will do exactly that on Thanksgiving Day. There is a reason everyone is moaning and groaning and stretching out on the sofa! If you are looking forward to indulging in all of your favorite Thanksgiving dishes (and desserts!), there is a way to minimize the physical damage. Without going into all the scientific data, it has been proven that simply taking a brisk 30 minute walk BEFORE a meal, or performing 15 minutes of bodyweight training (pushups, squats, pullups, burpees) before a meal, helps control post meal blood sugar spikes (which results in weight gain). Personally, I have found this to work quite effectively. The pre-meal workout followed by 16 ounces of water also helps me to CURB my appetite. Smaller portions actually become quite satisfying. The pre-meal workout (or walk) can become a very healthy habit to acquire. So, enjoy your brisk walk or hike or bodyweight workout - and treat yourself to some tasty Thanksgiving dishes!
